What did we learn from Sign Print & Pack 2026?

On 16–17 September, Sollex exhibited at Sign&Print Pack 2026 in Odense, Denmark.

The exhibition gave us the opportunity to meet machine manufacturers, suppliers and companies working with digital cutting, signage, converting and packaging. More importantly, it gave us a closer look at the cutting challenges companies are facing in production.

The cutting tool matters

Much of the focus in modern cutting systems is naturally placed on speed, automation and software. But the final interaction with the material still comes down to the knife, blade or cutting tool.

When that component is not performing as intended, the result can be poor edge quality, frequent blade changes, production stops or difficulties processing new materials.

Different materials require different solutions

The exhibition also highlighted how many different materials are being processed today – from plastics and acrylics to aluminium composites, cardboard, textiles and adhesive materials.

There is rarely one blade geometry that is optimal for every application. Cutting angle, blade material, coating and setup can all influence the result.

This becomes especially important when the same cutting system is used for several different materials.

Blade life affects productivity

Blade life was another recurring topic.

The cost of a blade change is rarely limited to the blade itself. Machine stops, operator time, setup and rejected material can have a much larger impact on production.

For that reason, the best cutting solution is not always the cheapest blade, but the one that delivers stable cut quality for the longest possible time.

Our main takeaways from Odense

Three points stood out to us:

Cut quality is about more than sharpness. Blade geometry, material, coating and setup all matter.

Small improvements can have a significant impact. Longer blade life can reduce stops, waste and operator intervention.

There is no universal cutting solution. The best results come from understanding the specific machine, material and application.

Thank you to everyone who visited us in Odense and shared their applications and experiences with us.

If you have a cutting application where blade life, cut quality or production stability could be improved, we would be happy to take a closer look.
